Department of Architecture

 

Department of Architecture started undergraduate education by taking 30 students in the 1995-1996 academic year within the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture at Süleyman Demirel University. The number of students coming to the department has increased every year, and the Department of Architecture continues with a quota of 90 students in 2020-2021 education.

In the academic year of 2002-2003, Master's degree in the Department of Architecture started and still continues. In the 2005-2006 academic year, as a result of bilateral agreements with Italy, Germany and Lithuania, the Department of Architecture was included in the Erasmus Program and bilateral agreements with Poland, Portugal, Lithuania, Greece and Germany still continue. Student exchange activities are also provided in Turkey with other universities under Farabi program.

On March 8th, 2012, the Department of Architecture was transferred to the Faculty of Architecture after the Süleyman Demirel University Faculty of Engineering and Architecture was divided into two and the Faculty of Architecture was established.

There are 380 students in the undergraduate program and 22 students in the master’s program. In the Master’s Program, education and research can be done in the field of Building Information, Structure Information, Architectural History, Restoration and the sub-fields of each field.

As of 2019-2020 academic year, a total of 650 people have graduated from our department.

 

Qualifications Required

Candidates, applying to become a city and regional planner, are expected to easily create solutions to human settlements and public institutions, to have analytical and critical thinking, to have a high level of imagination and design capability, to have ability to cooperate and will to learn and to be capable of maintaining coordination and organization between other professions.

 

AIMS AND THE VISION OF THE DEPARTMENT OF ARCHITECTURE

Vision; The vision of the Faculty of Architecture has been determined taking into account the culture and realities of the country. In this context, the vision of the faculty; to train designers who are sensitive to the environment, who are sensitive to the society and public interest, who are prone to interdisciplinary work, able to question and analyze, produce optimal solutions, strong communication, open to innovations, take responsibility for implementation, and have professional ethics.
Undergraduate and graduate program objectives of the Department of Architecture;
-       To be recognized, leader, effective and competent in scientific research and applications at national and international scale with undergraduate and graduate education and training,
-       To complete the national and international accreditation process,
-       Creating a student-oriented education and training program with the use of innovative technology and also ensuring efficiency, quality and continuity in education.
-       To produce, use and spread new knowledge and technologies through academic studies,
-       To have a sustainable, participatory, transparent, equal, responsible, auditable, evolving corporate identity within the framework of the principles of Sharing and Ethics and Merit.
-       Ensuring joint integration and cooperation with education and training in scientific research and applications between the planning and design disciplines of Architectural Sciences.
Mission; In architectural area, to educate of high-grade and competitive, successful candidates of architect and bring graduates to the condition of among the most preferred in national as well as foreign, to train architects who are competible with sector, researcher and creative, who have a skill of design and analytical thinking, make a contrubution at universal information production and have an ability of using technology.

SPATIAL CAPACITY
There are 4 lecture rooms privately-used by the Department within the Faculty of Architecture. These lecture rooms are Sinan, Eldem, Tekeli, Tabanlıoğlu Studios. A conference room, a computer laboratory, and a master program student study room are jointly used with other Departments of the Faculty.

 
Undergraduate Program Application Requirements
Students successful in passing the Student Measurement, Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM) Exam are accepted according to capacity numbers announced by this institution. Language of education is Turkish.

 

Undergraduate Program
Department undergraduate program; education period is 4 years. Undergraduate education; includes compulsory and elective courses (156 credits) 240 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) course load and compulsory internships. Every student who meets the graduation requirements specified in the Associate Degree and Undergraduate Education and Examination Regulations of our university can graduate from the Department by taking the title of Architect.

In addition, with the Minor and Double Major Programs, students can improve their professional experience in different disciplines.

GRADUATE PROGRAM
Within the framework of "Faculty of Architecture Undergraduate Education Internship Principles"; During the undergraduate education, excluding the education periods, 2 separate internships are carried out for a total of 60 days, including the construction site and the office.

Within Süleyman Demirel University Institute of Science;

1. Master of Architecture Education with Thesis is given.

2. Interdisciplinary Architecture, Planning and Design Doctoral education is given.

RESEARCH AND DEVLOPMENT ACTIVITIES
Undergraduate and graduate students may take part in the projects carried by Department’s academic staff. Projects on various student oriented undergraduate and graduate subjects, like projects of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) are also carried on.

 

EXCHANGE PROGRAMS
Undergraduate and graduate students have the chance of having education and practices through exchange programs (Erasmus – Socrates – Mevlana - Farabi Programs) provided. Agreements with Universities are made by the University Presidency.

STUDENT ACTIVITIES
Students in the Department of Architecture can participate to activities in different type and scales either held by the Department, the Faculty or the University.

 

DEPARTMENT ACTIVITIES
Technical Excursions, Practices and Social Activities
Technical excursions are organized by the coordinators of the Department’s Architecture Project courses to the planning area that will be studied that year. In this technical excursion; area characteristics and existing land uses are evaluated and information needed for the analysis are gathered.

Participation to various types of scientific activities organized by the Department or the Faculty is done together with the undergraduate and graduate students. At the same time, various student oriented activities are organized (Forums, talks, picnics, breakfasts, etc.).

 

Life in the University
Students can participate to acquaintance meetings, student community activities, cultural activities (cinema, theatre, concerts, workshops, etc.), exhibitions, sports activities. Süleyman Demirel University Student Communities are active in various fields.

For the adaptation of newly registered students to the University and Programs, an acquaintance meeting is organized within the Orientation Week.

Student Representatives

Every class has a student representative and responsible academic advisor. In between class representatives Department representative is selected. Participation of Department representatives of the Faculty to the Student Council is maintained. The Faculty representative speaks on behalf of our Faculty in the University Student Council.
